Wednesday (16 March) was bonnag and shopping day.

Our bonnag came from The Coffee Station in Peel, which is part of the heritage complex occupying the site of the old railway station. (For pics of the original station, start here and work forward.)

Buttered bonnag... Yum...

Bonnag is the subject of some controversy on the Island. Should it be more of a bread? Should it be more of a cake? I don't know, but I certainly enjoyed eating this version.

Our shopping list, meanwhile, took us to Douglas. (Shoes again... The trouble with walking so much is that you wear out shoes at an alarming rate...)

A couple of scenic Douglas pics, for the record:

Then today -- sadly our last day, but a bright and sunny one -- we went south for a pot pourri of things-we've-not-done-yet.

We started on the coast west of Castletown (the other side of the town from our Langness peregrinations):

Don't mess with the sheep...

If you look at the ordnance survey map of the area -- and this is a pattern we've noticed many times during our visit -- you'll see loads of interesting things marked (tumuli, keeills, hut circles, and so on) that you'll find neither hide nor hair of on the ground. I'm not sure what the deal is here, but I guess these remnants are on private land, and you need to be with someone in the know to access them.

Anyway, on the return leg, we saw a train!!

This was wonderful, but also kind of tragic. Stupidly, I'd been so convinced that the trains wouldn't be operating until Easter that I hadn't even checked... So we missed the opportunity to ride the steam train, which is something I adore doing. How idiotic.

Never mind. Next time...

Then Port Erin:

Finally, Castletown:

And then home to pack.

I'm so glad the Island turned on the blue for our farewell.
