One of the joys of our little cottage at The Lhen has been its proximity to the beach. Most days we've been down there.
A couple of nights we went hunting for the aurora borealis -- sadly with no success.
On Sunday we took the car up the coast as far as Blue Point (only a short distance, but this manoeuvre means you don't have to negotiate the place where The Lhen meets the sea). From here you can walk along the beach to Rue Point, and return via a path behind the dunes:
If you park at Jurby beach, and walk south along the coast, as we did on Monday, you will find the still dramatic remains of a fishing boat that ran aground in 1931 during a storm:
And once you're back where you left your car, you can detour to Jurby village for a look at the old runway:
In yet another little beach expedition today, we headed south from home, to investigate the ruins on the low headlands. I haven't tracked down what these were, but they're dramatically placed:
On the way there and back, you meet lots of seabirds:
It's hard to tire of a beach, because it's never the same twice.
Different weather. Different tides. Different birds. Different terrain. Wonderful.
