Bradda Head

This is the big headland that dominates Port Erin. It's a while since I've walked to the top, and I'd never climbed Milner's Tower. This monument has a curious history: It was built in 1871 by the residents of Port Erin in honour of William Milner, a noted benefactor of the town. Originally from Liverpool, he was a safemaker (which is why the tower is shaped like a key). The whole enterprise was meant to be a surprise, but once Milner found out about it, he coughed up much of the remaining cost of construction.

You get spectacular views in exchange for some pretty easy walking:

There's a labyrinth of little tracks on this headland, so you can easily vary your return path. On the way back to Port Erin, for example, you can pass by some of the little beaches that punctuate the bay:
