The downhill pattern I identified in the June review -- a repetition of the tendency that years have to turn to custard round about now -- has not reversed itself.
The Other Tern's post-viral problems mean a temporary halt on flying (so the China plans are on hold); and not only have we no evidence that the (still) ongoing noisy renovations are coming to a conclusion, but a new notification is now also announcing repairs on the floor above us that will last two weeks...
When I read that, I had the plummeting feeling of being totally trapped. Of all sensations this is the one I dread most.
But let's turn to the positive... We're now contemplating a bus trip to the Indonesian bit of Borneo, so that (assuming the next medical consultation goes OK) will be a bit of an outlet.
And there were a couple of things about the week that were interesting:
1.
Last year the Sarawak Heritage Society organized a petition to save the Old Nurses' Quarters, a lovely 1940s building that we have walked past countless times during our residence in Kuching. Last week we went to a meeting that examined two propositions for the preservation and repurposing of the site. The discussion was very interesting, showcasing different practical, aesthetic, and generational viewpoints.
There are some great videos of the current state of the building here.
2.
We did a little trip to La Promenade, which is always a pleasant day out:
After coffee at Black Bean (obligatory), we had lunch at Zoro, which we've not done for a while. Real smoked salmon salad...
After a circuit of Mr DIY (which I still think is the best in town, although they didn't have the bathmats I wanted), and before a tour of Choice (which is quite a nice supermarket, although they seemed a bit low on fruit that day), we had a look in the Hoan Gallery
3.
Yesterday was Tynwald Day!
We did our old Kwong Hup/Toast Bread classic breakfast walk:
And the rest of the week's gallery:
Hummingbird cake at the incomparable Zoey's. Banana, pineapple, cinnamon, nutmeg... What can be unhealthy about that?
