We are not particularly Christmassy people.

In Britain the whole show had kicked off before we'd even arrived (ie, September...), and even here the music is already driving us crazy...

I always feel it's a terrible shame that the actual Christmas story -- which presents such a mind-boggling and heart-warming proposition -- gets drowned out by all the seasonal silliness.

HOWEVER... It's the first time for a while that we've been in Kuching for this time of the year (the last four Christmases have found us in Newark, Fukuoka, Dubrovnik, and Cagliari). And I confess I'm really enjoying the exuberant iconography:

The Spring. The dove of peace certainly feels as though he's in demand at the moment...

And I like the way The Spring goes for a non-traditional colour scheme

Vivacity is sticking more with the tried and tested...

...but I like the lantern look...

...and you can never go wrong with a steam train

Earthlings. Who can resist a bauble-eyed, fold-out snowman with antlers?

...especially this one

Cool dude...

Indah. Nice juxtaposition there

So that's all fun (and I'm sure there'll be more).

But actually, this is my favourite Christmas tree, and it's right outside our window:
