I'm a big fan of murals, so it's nice to see another huge one going up on the wall that faces what will one day be the Brooke Dockyard Maritime Museum.

The dockyard itself was established by the second Rajah, Sir Charles Brooke, and played a key role in ship repair in Kuching. The museum is still in the works (as it has been all the seven years we've been here...) But it is supposed to be ready to open its doors later this year...

So, maybe when we're back in a few months' time, we'll be able to visit.

The mural is by Aries Kong Chak Kiong, aka Jagung Art, and its theme "highlights activities around the Brooke Dockyard area in the past, showcasing its historical significance".

It has gone up incredibly quickly...

Strolling past on 9 January, we saw this:




Just a few days later, on 15 January, Java Street was a hive of night-time activity as the artist and his team pressed on by floodlight, aided by a pack of trusty Zoomlions:










It will be so nice to come back to Kuching in the summer, and just be tourists...
