And so it continues... The huge and exuberant Kuching mega-party goes on...

The city hosted another big parade on Thursday, to mark the Prophet Muhammad's birthday.

We didn't actually stick around long enough to watch the procession, but it was great to see everyone assembling at the Padang, with the greyness of the day bringing out the colours in the fabrics:

snackpacks
For this kind of thing, it's always important to have enough snack boxes...

There was some great background music as we cruised around, watching everyone arriving, and later we stood and listened to the live music, which started as soon as the dignitaries had arrived.

Meanwhile, the ordinary food adventures continue:

mhk
Excellent "fast food" from Min Hong Kee, with yummy stuff like tempoyak, petai beans, tapioca leaves, and three-layer pork

Down to just a couple of mooncakes now... This one is pandan

And this one is -- well, we don't know really... There's definitely bean paste involved, but beyond that, we have no clue. Good, though...

Nam Joo has become a regular feature in our week

Yesterday was the actual Mid-Autumn Festival, the one all the mooncakes and the Mooncake Festival have been leading up to.

Lanterns on Jalan Padungan early this morning

On our last trip to the Mooncake Festival, we bought some Sarawakian tuak and some pulut (sticky rice roasted in banana leaves). So today, after a rainy morning walk, we decided to have the Sarawakian equivalent of a champagne breakfast:

badcat
Bad cat, but good tuak, brewed with black pepper

nasilemak
Home-made variant on nasi lemak: Pulut we bought earlier, sambal I made myself, and all the usual accompaniments

Cheers! Here's to the last quarter

And tomorrow it's the Marathon:
