We start with some reminders that Kuching is incredibly green and rural in some areas:

serapi

riverside

bin
Even the bins are sprouting...

But there has also been a bit of an old-and-new architectural theme to the week:

What else?

Well, Ramadan continues:

ramadan2

And early in the week we became aware that another celebration was afoot. The flags were going up at the Hong San Si Temple on Wayang Street:

And there was suddenly a new dragon in town. We think he's destined to be a fire dragon, but I'll report back on that later...

Today there was a lion mega-spectacular, as part of the Seng Ong Deity birthday festivities, but that's going to get a post of its own.

Food continues. Of course. It's Kuching after all:

wanxiang
Awesome breakfast from Wan Xiang. We used to order from them during lockdown, but this was our first in-person visit. Everything -- pork balls, broth, noodles, char siew -- delicious

kuayteow
Aromatic char kuay teow from Ah Liong

ahliong

nangka1
Jackfruit, a gift from a friend's orchard

pancakes
Good neat, or with almond pancakes and coconut cream

zus
We finally tried out Zus, another new chain that arrived while we were away. Nice coffee. This one is at Aeon, where we spent one impossibly rainy afternoon

laksa
Another really nice version of the Sarawak laksa, from Min Huat

panmee
Tasty pan mee soup, from the Thompson Cafe

And just a couple of extra photos to round off with:

boats

cat
The condo cat. Usually she's sitting somewhere much sillier, like the middle of the road
