The weather since we hit the Island has been totally atypical.

Let me explain. Misty is fairly normal. And Nigel has also identified something called "Manx light". So you get scenes like these:

blackbird
He fits right in with the gloomy days

One of the pleasures of grey is the way the colour leaps out of its ashen surrounds:

Peel: Red boat, grey bay

Ramsey: Red engine, grey pier

rose
I love this droplet-flecked rose

stack
Who's worried about a grey sky with a chimney stack like that?

But grey on grey is good too

So far, so par for the course.

What isn't at all normal, on the other hand, is that it's so very, very STILL... This is a place that does WINDS, all capitals. And yet, since we have been here, it has been extraordinarily calm. I don't think I've ever seen reflections like these in Ramsey:

piles

mooragh

Autumn suits the steam engines, too. We haven't had another ride yet, but we photograph them at every available opportunity. Why? Because they're ADORABLE...

We know this can't last. But it's great while it does.

We haven't purely been hoofing the byways enjoying autumn, though. Oh no. We've been hard at work. And we may just possibly have bought a house...

Is autumn a good season for house-hunting? I don't know. The Chinese would consult someone. Is it an auspicious time? Is it best to delay? The trouble is that sometimes the people they consult don't agree... So, they end up doing what they think is best, and/or finding some complicated compromise.

Which is pretty much what we've done anyway.

So, as the year fades, we're contemplating starting a whole new something...

Whoa... And they think Hallowe'en is scary...
