We're still not really gardeners... We're lazy where the garden is concerned, and always take the line of least resistance.
BUT... we're enjoying what's emerging out there, front and back, and definitely want to keep it alive (which has involved watering of late, as it has been so unwontedly dry).
Here are some mementos:

The roses have REALLY taken off this month:
They're kind of hard work... You have to cut the fading flower heads off; ditto the leaves that have got black spot... And something's eating them now. But my sister-in-law says not to worry... Nature and all that... Still, despite their high-maintenance qualities, we like them a lot. It's lovely to come home to a bunch of roses
Really heart-warming, too, has been the enthusiasm of the bees and butterflies for the lavender and hebe in the back garden. The lavender has gone cracker-bush, and sprawls everywhere, which it probably shouldn't. But it's never without its admiring cloud of nectar-lovers:
The hebe is only little, but again a great hit:
So adorably fluffy...
Sorry to be going away for so long, actually, when all this is happening. We'll know better next year.
