Our last Manx outing for a little while had to be to Peel, PT's birthplace and the home of the kipper. You can't go away from the Island for five whole weeks, without fortifying yourself with a last kipper bap...

Peel (or, more specifically, the House of Manannan) is also currently the host of a nice little art exhibition called Traces, organized by The Creative Network.

As the introductory text puts it, "Traces explores the tangible and intangible marks we leave upon the world, and those the world leaves upon us."

intro

There was lots to enjoy:

rounds
I Am, by Stef Will

redpath
Miss Redpath, by Chris Killip. Such an expressive photograph...

yellow
Fenella's Petticoat, by Patricia A. Tutt. We both felt that if we were to buy one, this would be it

jetsam1
Strandline -- Found, by Linda Livesey

jetsam2

wreck
The Passages Shipwreck, by Samantha Carroll. We visited this beached and sinking boat in 2024. I think this is such a clever picture. What is left is now so small compared with its context

hanging
Dusk, by Vici Blackburn

blackdog
Tracing Silence, by Bruno Cavellec

wedding
The Wedding, by Myra Gilbert. A very evocative assemblage

blue
Drift and Root, by Colette Davies

spring
Traces of Spring, by Janice Rotheroe. Interestingly 3D

Not part of the exhibition, but incontrovertibly cute:

bikerbear

***

We've often seen guillemots in Peel, but today they were really out in force:

guillemot1
They're so puffin-like, with their dumpy bodies and bright red feet

guillemot2

guillemot3

guillemot4

seagulls1
Always out in force, needless to say, are the seagulls. It is Peel, after all... This seems to be a favourite bathing spot

seagulls2

wildlife
You wouldn't want to tangle with this specimen of wildlife...

anon
We're not totally sure what this guy is, apart from totally cute. Our best guess is a juvenile guillemot, but we stand to be corrected

Aside from all this art and ornithology, Peel was its usual picturesque self:

beach

vikingboats
Unfortunately, we're going to be away for the postponed Viking longboat races

We rounded off the day with another decadent treat from Traa dy Liooar, who really do everything well:

Ginger and dark chocolate tiffin... Indescribably yummy..

Just remind me why we're going away...?
